Privacy Notice

1. Who we are

WePetSit South Africa ("WePetSit", "we", "us"), Durbanville, Cape Town, is the responsible party for the personal information described here.

2. What we collect

• Booking enquiries: your name, phone number, email, the physical address where your pets will be cared for, your pets' details (type, number, breed, special needs, behaviour and medication), dates, and how you found us.
• Feedback: your ratings and comments, and optionally your name, your pet sitter's name and details of anyone you refer to us.
• Pet sitter registrations (Join the Team): your name, contact details, birth year, gender, address, experience and training, whether you have a valid South African ID, your contact preference, and your criminal record declaration.
• Messages: what you tell us by email, phone or WhatsApp.

3. Why we use it

• To respond to your enquiry, match you with a suitable pet sitter, and arrange and deliver your pet care.
• To process pet sitter registrations, certification and membership with The Pet Sitter Institute of South Africa (PSI SA).
• To send invoices and keep financial records.
• To improve our service, using your feedback.
• To send news and offers, only if you have agreed to receive them. You can opt out at any time.

4. Who we share it with

• Your pet sitter: the details they need to care for your pets, such as your address, your pets' needs, and key and alarm arrangements.
• PSI SA: our sister organisation, for pet sitter registrations, certification and membership.
• Service providers who run our systems for us: Zoho (our booking and feedback forms and client records), Netlify (website hosting and online forms) and Google (the registration spreadsheet). They may store information outside South Africa; we use providers that protect it to a standard POPIA recognises.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires (for example, financial records). Client and booking records are kept for 5 years after your last booking, as South African tax law requires for financial records, and then deleted. Enquiries that do not lead to a booking are deleted after 12 months.

6. How we protect it

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to keep your information safe, and share it only with people who need it to deliver our service.

7. This website

This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our multi-step forms save your progress in your own browser so that you can pick up where you left off; this stays on your device. Our booking and feedback forms are provided by Zoho, fonts load from Google Fonts, and the map on our Locate page loads from OpenStreetMap; these services may process technical information such as your IP address.

8. Your rights

You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, or withdraw your consent to marketing at any time. Email info@wepetsit.co.za. If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: inforegulator.org.za.

We may update this notice from time to time. The version on this page is the current one.
